Growing Together
@ Coronado Hill Urban Agriculture Collective
Our initiative transforms two family homes in Portland into thriving community healing spaces and food forests.
Coronado Hill UAC welcomes all Oregonians to seek peace, share love, and find renewal in nature's embrace. We honor Oregon's agricultural traditions with every seed we plant.
We heal together. We learn from each other. We eat very well.
About Coronado Hill UAC
Meet the Founder: Kendall Martin
Hello there, and thank you for coming over to Coronado Hill.
I want to tell you a quick story. This is about 'why' we're doing what we're doing at Coronado Hill UAC.
I learn something new everyday about what matters most. I'm a humble husband, a father of three strong Black boys, and a grateful human being who wants to share joy, be healthy and love the people who are in my life.
I do this work because I want to pass along family traditions and values that transcend a stock portfolio or 401(k). I'm doing my best to leave a legacy for my boys, for my community, and for people I'll never meet. My family is creating a safe space for folks like you to be comfortable to join us, work the soil with us, heal with us, and of course eat very well with us.
Welcome to Coronado Hill UAC. Everyone has a seat at our table.
Our Vision and Impact
When I was a kid, I hated mowing the lawn. So I learned how to do more than mow grass.
Why did we need all of that green grass anyway?

Both sides of my family cultivated the land that they owned to feed their family. From the rich red clay of western North Carolina, my mom's side of the family grew their own food in the backyard. On my dad's side, my grandfather grew the most amazing fruits and vegetables in rich soil near the Roanoke River near the boarder of Virginia and North Carolina. He did this by cultivating seeds that my great-grandfather preserved for him.
How do we cultivate seeds for our future? Our vision is simple. Let's get our hands in the dirt together, grow some food for our community, and find ways to create pathways to success for future generations whom we will never meet.
This is why we do what we do @ Coronado Hill UAC.
This is where we get our hands in the dirt.
We are descendants of farmers and traders, our histories intertwined across continents. From the African diaspora, with its Middle Eastern, Indigenous, and Latinx threads, to all who hold the Earth sacred, Coronado Hill Urban Agriculture Collective is for all of us.

Rooted in Justice, Growing Community in Oregon

We blend urban farming practices that nourish both body and soul, blending sustainable practices with a deep commitment to social justice. Elder Voices, Shared Histories: Our media studio captures and shares the stories of our elders, honoring their wisdom and preserving our collective heritage. Cultivating Cultural Abundance: We grow culturally significant foods in our food forest, celebrating the rich tapestry of our communities for generations to come. Land for All, Food for All: Our regenerative gardens provide open access to fresh, healthy food, combating food insecurity across all our neighborhoods. Healing and Thriving Together: We create safe spaces for healing workshops, acknowledging shared trauma and building professional skills that prioritize well-being and economic prosperity. We have what we need when we work together. Let's cultivate a future where we create a healing space, a learning space and a hub of innovation that propels our youth to become entrepreneurial environmental leaders of the future.

Reclaiming Our Roots, Cultivating Prosperity

We empower Portland's communities of color, prioritizing our Black communities, in honoring ancestral farming wisdom and dismantling historical injustices to build economic strength. Honoring Ancestral Wisdom We convene our elders to share traditional knowledge about the land and our history in this place Connecting Tables We create market and food supply connections for local restaurants that share our values of community empowerment (and good taste) Job Training We provide targeted job training, equipping veterans and returning community members with the essential skills to build successful futures. Targeting Systemic Inequity We build community wealth, and prioritizing those most impacted by systemic barriers Coronado Hills Urban Agriculture Collective is honoring ancestral farming knowledge already present in greater Portland's BIPOC communities. We are directly addressing historical injustice one seed, one healing ground and one community meal at a time.

Sacred Ground: A Pilot for Community Transformation

In Southwest Portland, we're launching a replicable model: transforming neighboring homes into a vital campus for healing and growth. This is the first step in expanding Coronado Hill UAC’s impact across greater Portland and the rest of Oregon: Reclaiming Traditions and Healing Our People We integrate Black, Indigenous and Latinx farming knowledge with modern sustainability, crafting a data-driven program for urban regeneration. We'll be the envy of the world. Cultivating Community This campus will serve as an urban sanctuary, fostering intergenerational healing, agriculture learning and strengthening our cultural connections to each other. We'll heal and grow together. Here, people heal from historical trauma by reconnecting with the land, promoting equity for all Oregonians.
